still here, still busy

With all the doom and gloom around it’s reassuring to know that we are still busy with projects large and small - over the next few months we are working on the branding of a creperie, designing a new cocktail bar in Covent Garden and the expansion of the Brasserie Blanc brand as it doubles in size to over 20 units by the Summer. Following our digital work for II Baretto, we’ll be creating a new site for their Banca restaurant in Mayfair, due to open in the spring. Onto healthcare, where we expect to launch the HC-One website by March, our largest digital project to date with over 240 individual location listings, full CMS, location specific services and content. Then there are the cycling projects, the BT online and offline initiatives and the launch of a new footwear brand later this year. With all that to look forward, crossing the Pyrenees by bike in June this year (740km, 14000m ascent, 100hours) looks like a piece of cake.

Web ‘99

I think we’re allowed the odd reminisce from time time to time. Whilst searching the archive for something or other I came across all the files for our previous websites, dating back to 1999. We’re currently on our 6th version but I thought i’d give these old dog’s a new digital home, it’s amazing to see how technology, and our client base has changed in the past few years. First up then is this olden but golden version from the last century - remember 16kb image files anyone?

Cycling Poster

Our work over at sister company Milltag has been a lovely diversion, creating work for own pleasure without the pressures of client’s requirements and restrictions. However, we always hoped that we could align the two companies and create a ‘ground-up’ branding campaign for a suitably forward thinking bike manufacture. Well, we think we may have found one, and the results should be on display in March at the Bespoked Bristol show…watch this space

PKD Prepares

Our work with BT on their ‘Road to 2012′ continues apace, we’ve now worked up over 10 of the test events into the book format with more to be included shortly. We’re also looking at an online, user-generated content version of the book to make available during the actual event itself (we’re not allowed to state what it is, the big thing happening in London this Summer). Next up is the track cycling test event at the Velodrome, where i’m providing ‘vital’ art direction trackside. I’ll bring my bike just in case…

HC-One Digital

PKD has been working in healthcare for a couple of years now, mainly online and a little branding too. We are delighted then to have been asked to become the digital partner for HC-One, the new care company that is taking the running of a third of the care homes formerly run by Southern Cross Healthcare.

As a foretaste of things to come, we have had to install an interim site in just over 24 hours - some going even for us. Many thanks to our friends over at saneandable for their sterling work in getting this built in time. This is only the start, we’ve big ideas for this site - time to sharpen those digital pencils.

The Road To 2012

A long time ago we did some work for BT, it’s always good to do some work for the big boys and when chance to design some material to support their 2012 sponsorship (we’re not allowed to use the ‘O’ word) we couldn’t resist. The first item we’re creating is a bespoke photographic record covering 20 test events taking place over the next 9 months, focusing on BT staff and their involvement to make these events possible. Shot by PKD house lensman Charlie Birchmore, it’s sure to be a lovely project. Velodrome, here we come.

Blanc Recipe App

The lovely folk over at Brasserie Blanc asked us to develop a new section for the website dedicated to showing how you can recreate their signature dishes at home. We’re just finalising the design for the online version but plans are already afoot for an ipad and phone app - watch this space. Here’s a sneak preview anyway…

Milltag Madness

A busy time over at our sister company Milltag, we’re knee deep in new cycling jerseys; The Wedding Present, the Cobble Wobble, Save A Cyclist campaign and The Bike Show to name a few. Add some exciting product developments to launch in the new year, and a newly designed website makes for an impressive first year for our pet project.

This Summer I took part in the Paris Brest Paris 1230km cycle race, the oldest event of it’s type in the world, and forerunner of the Tour de France. I made a short film of my experience which you can find in full, hi-resolution version here, or in preview below - Note 14 mins long, contains ace music.

Brasserie Gerard

The head honcho’s at Paramount Restaurants were so taken with our work on Chez Gerard that they asked us to sprinkle some magic dust on the sister brand, Brasserie Gerard. The timeline was punishingly tight but necessity is the mother of invention. So it proved as we managed to create a whole new brand execution and menu suite, referencing the modernist, cafe style menus found in many authentic Parisienne bistrots.

VCCB Jersey

We couldn’t be happier when our lovely client Brasserie Blanc asked us to create some team cycling jerseys for their outdoor terrace staff to wear for the summer months (I think rain capes might have been more appropriate). Lovingly created in true retro fashion, we’d love to have made this in heavy guage cotton but alas the budget wouldn’t stretch that far. Still, a handsome item which by all accounts is going down a storm. Chapeau to all involved.
