Everyday

In June 2022 I took on the inaugural Transalp 1200, a bike ride through northern Italy, Austria and Slovenia. The 1250km event started and finished in Verona and took in the South Tirol, the Sillian and Julian Alps along the way.

I went out this morning to complete some hill reps, for those that don’t know that’s a form of bike training where you repeatedly climb the the same hill, usually as a circuit rather than a straight up and down. Anwway, it was good to head over to Ladbroke Grove where PKD lived for six happy years. My 10 climbs up the Grove and Holland Park Avenue yielded a total of 224m of elevation gain, hardly alpine but a decent workout nonetheless.

Returning home in glorious sunshine I spotted this poster in the underpass by Goldhawk Road station. I used to be a little cynical about this type of pronouncement but these days they seem to carry a deeper, more resonant meaning.
