In June 2022 I took on the inaugural Transalp 1200, a bike ride through northern Italy, Austria and Slovenia. The 1250km event started and finished in Verona and took in the South Tirol, the Sillian and Julian Alps along the way.

A dip into the archives for this image, all the way back to 2005. I took this photo in the French Pyrennes just outside Pau, a roundabout sculpture of the type so prevalent in France and a tribute to Le Tour. Pau holds the honour as the most often-frequented host town for the Tour, but when I was there 15 years ago I’d not ridden a road bike since the mid eighties. An image as a chronicle of a future foretold - the following year I began my own cycling journey with a London to Paris charity ride and rest, as they say, is history.
