I was fortunate to be in Berlin in April 2014 attending a bike show when I found out about a bike race with a difference, The Rad Race. It was held on a go-cart track as a winners takes all format open to all riders on any type of single speed bike. The venue, a race track in Kreuzberg and the underground nature of the event - no corporate take-over here, just a pumping sound system and a few crates of local brew lent the evening a special flavour, to my eyes reminiscent of those vintage Parisienne velodrome photos so atmospherically captured by Henri Cartier Bresson.
