In June 2022 I took on the inaugural Transalp 1200, a bike ride through northern Italy, Austria and Slovenia. The 1250km event started and finished in Verona and took in the South Tirol, the Sillian and Julian Alps along the way.

Valhalla

I’m enjoying the new Icelandic Scandi-Noir drama in BBC4, ‘The Valhalla Murders’. I went to Iceland back in 1997 for a long, winter weekend. On the plane over I read about a Japanese photographer, Takeshi Homma and his book of Icelandic Suburban Landscapes. Rows of pastel painted low-rise tower blocks and manicured homes set against a snowy backdrop, it became one of my favourite photography folios. I was channeling something of Homma when I took this shot (on B&W 35mm film) of a backstreet in Reykjavik.
